10:30 – Econ PhD student orientation in 8417 Social Science Building (all incoming students must attend). Lunch will be provided.
9:30, 10:15, and 11:00 a.m– *Speak test non-native English speakers in Room 250 Van Hise.
3:00 pm to 400 pm- Social Science Computing Co-op Orientation (room 3218 Social Science Building)
Tuesday, August 23
1:00, 1:45, and 2:30 p.m. *Speak test non-native English speakers in Room 250 Van Hise.
Thursday, August 25

9:00 to 4:00 – **Day 1 TA Training in room 8417 Social Science Building (required for all first-time TAs)

Thursday, September 1
International Student Services (ISS) has prepared a Mandatory Orientation. Graduate Students are required to attend an ISS Orientation. Check-in for all sessions will be from 1:30pm to 2:00pm with the program beginning promptly at 2:00pm and ending at 4:30pm. Please choose one of the following orientation sessions to attend; no reservation required:9:00 to 12:00 – **Day 2 TA Training in the Humanities Building; register in room 3650 Humanities (required for all first-time TAs) Registration begins at 8:30.
3:30pm to 5:30pm – International Student Services Welcome Reception, first floor main lounge in Ogg Hall (UW Residence Hall).
Exchange Students will have an IIS orientation on Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Check-in begins at 9:00am in the lobby of Engineering Hall and the program will take place from 9:30am to 4:00pm in room 1800.
*All non-native English speakers MUST take the Speak test once during the fall semester. If you are a non-native speaker and you would like to be considered for a TA position on the spring semester, you MUST take the Speak test. If you haven’t make arrangements to take the speak test, please email the graduate advisor what day you would like to take it. **New PhD students without TA jobs for fall are welcome to attend TA training but are not required to attend training. Occasionally, we have TA jobs available for students without funding in the spring semester. You will need to attend the training sessions to be eligible to teach in the spring so if you are considering or hoping to be a TA, plan to attend the training sessions .

You may want to explore the University of Wisconsin – Madison through a guided walking tour. These 100-minute tours of campus are led by experienced tour guides and highlight campus life, academics and the history of the university. They are offered at 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and at noon, Saturday and Sunday, throughout the year. Reservations are recommended. Tours leave from the Campus Information Center in the Red Gym, 716 Langdon St. In addition, the Graduate School holds a number of other events during Graduate Welcome Week. All events are free and open to graduate students and their families and friends unless indicated otherwise.
